When Mo$hpit Cindy released her melodious canzone, “Can’t Wait”, on Valentine’s Day, R&B music enthusiasts expected a sombre ballad about heartbreak and rejection. However, the 20-year-old “Indifferent” hit-maker released a sweet-sounding love song, surprising everyone, including herself. “This is the most simp shit I’ve ever written,” Mo$hpit Cindy composedly says, her voice shadowing the lonely piano riff.
The song is top-notch new-age R&B, and Cindy’s passion is evident from the onset. She pours her heart out, expressing her expectations when it comes to love. The songstress sings: “I can’t wait to get all romantic” in the chorus, along with a tuneful keyboard. She further coos: “I can’t wait to fall in love with you”, confirming she can’t wait to be a gone girl.
The songstress’ love song is an emotionally riveting journey, demonstrating her novel quality. Cindy utilises a rap-sung cadence to give the illusion of structurelessness before effortlessly diving into a pristine chorus. The free verse arrangement of the song is reminiscent of Cindy’s debut EP, 21st Century Luv. The dreamy trapsoul and hip-hop-inspired synths and enthralling instrumentals of the song are similar to those of her first body of work.

“Can’t Wait” wouldn’t be a Mo$hpit track without elements of somberness. Despite the song’s essence being an expression of her heart’s romantic desires, the songstress sedately croons: “I wanna be in love, but maybe it’s not my time”, instantly alluding to her being unlucky in love. Contradicting emotions mark familiar lyrical territory for Mo$hpit Cindy. The songstress crafts soundscapes that balance not having things completely figured out while simultaneously being comforted by the hope of a possible, worthy love to come.
Among the various complex emotions explored by Mo$hpit Cindy in “Can’t Wait”, there is one consistent sentiment that she passionately expresses: The desire to be romanced and not some half-hearted 21st-century love.
