The road to fame and music-making for amapiano DJ and record producer Stixx has been one of learning from his peers and lifting one another as they all rise to their individual calling, though as a collective. From being behind the instruments during Sunday services to rocking clubs with his music, Stixx’s progression has been one that attests to the life-changing attribute of time.
The life story of Stixx behind the producing desk began at church and finessing drums for the worship team.
“I started playing drums at the age of two at church, because I’ve always been a musician at heart. I started making music seriously at around 2015. I’d use my uncle’s laptop and learn using tutorials on YouTube. Then in 2019, my friend started borrowing me his laptop and showed me the basics of using FL Studio to learn further. After that I began developing the skill every day,” Stixx shared.
With December around the corner, the producer is due to drop his debut LP Test of Time, which features the likes of amapiano stars such as Kelvin Momo and DBN Gogo and vocalists Nia Pearl and Nanette. So far, he has let loose the lead single ‘Hello‘, featuring Nvcho and Mzizi, to assist the roll out of his body of work.
He revealed that ‘Dlala Stixx‘ will be his next single dropping soon. The two-hour project spanning fifteen tracks, due for release on the 1st of December 2023, is an album Stixx wanted to use as an exhibition of his musical versitility.
“I started with the album last year because I wanted something musical since I come from such a background. Because of that, I thought to myself that if I ever dropped music, I’d want it to be musical so people would relate to my music from that perspective. So I started working with guitarists, saxophone players, and building the album using different types of sounds. I wanted jazz on it, soul, and some maskandi from emakhaya fused into amapiano. Those are the types of vibes I wanted to create with the album,” he said.
