In a rather unexpected twist of music events, a collaboration between multi-Grammy-winning pop superstar Bruno Mars and iconoclastic femme rap’s most recognisable avatar Sexyy Red has been born in the shape of “Fat, Juicy, & Wet”. Brief as their collabo is, their single is as raunchy as it is sensual, with the smutty songwriting pairing well enough with the coquettish production to stir warm feelings of lust and nocturnal fun.

Produced by Mars alongside production quartet The Stereotypes, “Fat, Juicy, & Wet” is a crunk song layered with metronomic synths, rhythmic hand claps, and owl-like vocal drops hooting continually in the background. The light-hearted and dance-friendly production gives Red and Bruno enough leeway to explore their respective wild sides as the pair express, with varying degrees of literoticism, their sexual fantasies with vivid imagery.
The first verse, opened by Mars, paints a graphic sexual scene with the “That’s What I Like” hitmaker launching into action with an overt description of the southernmost lady parts of a woman, conceding that a swim in it is enough to throw him in enough confusion so as to start acting out-of-character, such as doing gang-related activities. With his scant contribution, Bruno shirks the lane of heartfelt and his wholistic take on romance, opting for a crass jugular shot aimed and taken with nothing but shock value in mind. He doesn’t spend too much time on the mic, and with that he avoids making any clumsy move, leaving the bulk of the dirty work to his Missouri counterpart.

Comparing her coochie to addictive drugs such as cocaine, Red wastes no time after grabbing the baton from Bruno, running even farther than he did and doing it with enough sprightly verve and shamelessness to put an eye-widening meaning to her explicit writing.
Juxtaposted with Bruno’s foray, the “U My Everything” rapper’s verse pair of verses explore the theme of liberated sexuality with verbal vignettes of bedroom gymnastics, brazen boasts of how special her sex is, and not-suitable-for-work scenarios referencing sex positions. From burning painterly images of the aftermath of sexual intercourse to having her lover drink from the chalice between her crotches, Red isn’t exactly in her “Pound Town” bag here, but there’s enough inspiration in this record that suggests that her songwriting was headed in that direction.
