Pabi Cooper and Jelly Babie Amplify the Bacardi Fever With Their Latest Visuals for “Jukulyn”

BET Award-nominated amapiano star Pabi Cooper and “Thaba (Ke Chenchitse)” hitmaker Jelly Babie have put their heads together and dropped the music of their single “Jukulyn”. Directed by Johannesburg-based director Kmane, the visuals offer a dynamic peek into the rainbow-esque world of Cooper and Babie’s interpretation of the Bacardi world.

Minimalism is the core foundation of the music video, with the choreography of all dancers mostly limited to Bacardi. Adorned in pastel-coloured and furry skin-revealing bras, heels and headgear, Pabi and Babie are the primary stars who lead the ever-shifting vignettes, which transition from a road-sign littered dance floor to a lightly-lit sheltered skate park.

Scenes constantly take turns showcasing different dancers gyrating their hips and dancing with abandon before a semi-circle of their clapping entourage. Dominated as it is with feminine presence, male dancers, in the form of Mathatha Boys, make a cameo, though, without partaking in the fun with the rest of the girls.

“Jukulyn”, in all its hipness and bursts of spunk, is an ocular representation of the perks of having a ball with bodily agency. Equipped with pink balaclavas bespangled with the word “Jukulyn” and denim booty shorts, Pabi, Jelly, and company express their femininity with shameless verve, in a way, creating their own version of what it is to live within a little pocket of a Barbie-like fantasy.

Contrasting with the relatively girly feel of the first half, the latter parts of the music video come peppered with the lead pair dressed in oversized basketball T-shirts and flat-brim caps to offset the whimsical texture of earlier sequences.

With “Jukulyn”, Pabi Cooper and Jelly Babie keep fun in between their feet without the need for beach sand or wasteful CGI to achieve a level of fun that’s at the very least believable. The moon-white and teethy smiles, the glow on their faces, and the kineticism in the dancing make the music video a slice of what girlies dream about when it’s time for a good get-together.
